Street or post-clocks gained popularity starting in the mid-19th century and continue to be installed on street corners and in commercial establishments today. Joseph Jessop, Jim Jessop’s English-born great-grandfather, was said to have been inspired to build such a clock while traveling in Europe before moving to San Diego in 1890. “I can think of very few things in San Diego that people have admired as long as the Jessop’s clock.” “It is a piece of history, something that can’t be reproduced today,” he said.
